I was checking and adjusting the timing on my 1996 Evinrude 40HP outboard, Model: E40TELEDS. The adjustment link is "pulled in" to the maximum, and minimum position screw is all the way in. During normal idle, mark is at -2 to -4 degrees, and at WOT its only at +12 degrees.To set the timing on that 115hp Evinrude, have the s/plugs out, and have the throttle at full, set that timer base under the flywheel tight against the rubber stop on the end of the full spark timer advance stop screw (wire it against that stop if necessary). As long as the fuel system is funtioning correctly, you can vary that by several degrees and you'll know by the rpm's at idle in gear when you have it right.
