Waterworks is a 100% essential to have, the struggle is very much worth it. The playstyles you can come up with. You can wear the full set or pieces from other gear you still get good stats. Wintertusk has nearly the exact same damage as ww, but lower in resistance. But you said you struggle with survivability so I'm not quite sure whether you should use wintertusk or not.
