Even on the arrow-puzzles and the big central wheel, you get environmental hints about what you're supposed to do. It's only the slab puzzles that lack hints or clues to give you a direction to work in, and there's no reason for it. Yeah, that's mostly due to Enigma being so super relegated. The most annoying part of that puzzle was that you have to pick up the stat-less shield on the wall to discover the button. Because of weight, I never pick up stat-less armour, shields or weapons without at least one "enchantment" (eg masterwork).
