I find that the little 1, 2, or 3mm gaps are hard and the short organic supports get stuck to the model. What I do it print the model up in the air and have longer supports. Therefore they come off easier. Here is prusa's official how to article on that.

Organic supports. I am very new at 3d printing so I searched for any info on organic supports to make sure this wasn't suggested and I didn't see it anywhere. My organic supports that are tall seem to fail quite regularly. It seems that they aren't stable above a certain height.
